President’s Message
The Annual
General Meeting was held on
I wish to
thank retiring committee members Anne Harris [minute secretary for 2008/9],
Anita Kelleher and Rosie Sitorus [past President of UNYA] for their dedication
to the work of UNAA(WA). It is quite a commitment to
regularly attend committee meetings and subcommittee meetings and to be
available to represent the association. Those members representing
organisations also report back to their organisations.
The new
Executive Committee will examine a proposal to meet bi-monthly with
arrangements for some decisions to be made by email or the calling of a special
committee meeting. The list of the new committee members (2009/10) is in this
update. I welcome all members and look forward to working with the team during
the year. The past year has been a year of great achievement, all members can
be proud of the work of the association. A number of motions were passed during
the AGM.
A minute of
silence acknowledged the commitment of long term member Jolanda [Yolli] Frank
who passed away in July 2009. A motion was received and accepted to establish
an award in her name which will encourage young people to understand the
Declaration of Human Rights. Her family have been contacted to gain permission
to establish this award. Another motion moved expressed great concern regarding
the State Government’s withdrawal of financial support for the association. A
letter will be written to the Premier asking for a review of this decision.
Treasurer Harvey Davies moved four resolutions regarding the finances [these
are listed in this update].
The 2009
President’s award was presented to Dr Jan Ryan for her planning and
presentation of the model UN program. Awards of appreciation went to Curtis
Clark, Harvey Davies, Carolyne Gatward, Joan Mann and Geoff Rackham (Auditor).
