Book Club: 6pm Friday 18 February 2011

After a year of serious reading, it is time for some fun! So we are going to read the satirical novel Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday. This book is similar in many ways to Yes Minister. There is a review at www.mostlyfiction.com.
We will discuss this book while enjoying a picnic meal at the Somerville outdoor cinema, prior to watching the movie Desert Flower. This is the inspiring true story of Waris Dirie, an extraordinary, proud and brave woman whose bestselling biography Desert Flower touched the hearts of readers worldwide. Since becoming a United Nations Special Ambassador, she has dedicated her life to fighting the horrific practice of female circumcision. Her story is similar in many ways to that of Ayaaan Hirsi Ali, the author of Infidel, the book we discussed at the November meeting.
All are welcome, even if you have not read Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Please contact Harvey if you are coming.
The following (March?) meeting will probably discuss both Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Desert Flower.
Booking and further information Ring Harvey Davies on 9387-6789 or email him.
